What We’re About
Good things start small, and in 1993 we started off as a small idea in a big conversation. With the goal of breaking down the barriers of isolation amongst the growing number of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning, and two-spirited young-people across Ontario, the LGBT Youth Line is Canada’s only peer-to-peer support line. Run entirely by youth volunteers, the phone lines provide peer-to-peer support to LGBTQ youth and youth with questions in Ontario, via confidential online chat, a toll-free phone line, and as of 2012, text messaging.
What We Do
The Board of Directors works with the Executive Director, staff, and volunteers to help the Youth Line realize its mission. This includes a wide range of activities, such as attending and participating in monthly board meetings, policy writing, fundraising, planning for the future and chairing and sitting on various committees. On average, Board Members may spend approximately 10-15 hours per month on Youth Line matters.
