In this first episode of the season of Nourishing Our Roots, our hosts Ashiana and Grace explore the theme of decolonizing wellness through Spirituality with guest speaker Gabriel Marie Bacani. Also known as GM, Gabriel Marie is a queer Filipinx person who overcame deep depression from suppressing their queer identity by connecting back with their ancestral & pre-colonial Phillipine culture and moving away from decolonized views. In the episode, they discuss their journey & how community and spiritual practices like tarot reading, spellwork and moon rituals helped them navigate through their previous life into their current one of acceptance and self-love. In the final segment, Gabriel gives our listeners tips on how to create your own ancestral altar or “Dumbana” that will help you tune into yourself and connect with your ancestors.
