Queer Refugee Program

IRQR provides guidance about the resettlement process and helps individuals to plan and anticipate the challenges ahead. Members of IRQR who have come from similar situations guide applicants through the process. This support is vital to the physical and mental well being of the refugee applicants and helps ensure better integration and a greater chance of success in their new life. We helping Iranian and Afghan LGBT refugees who are in Canada and provide support to ALL queer refugees who are in Turkey.

Queer Youth Kawartha Lakes, BGC Kawarthas

Queer Youth Kawartha Lakes (QYKL) is a group for queer youth to safely express themselves without judgement, build positive relationships with other queer youth in the City of Kawartha Lakes, and facilitate activities to advocate and spread awareness of queer people and events. Youth ages 12 to 17 are welcome to join QYKL. QYKL runs every Thursday from 6 pm to 7:30 pm. Note: QYKL runs during the school year.

Queering Faith is a discussion group for diverse queer people who experience a variety of different faiths. This group is also those in the process of reclaiming, resettling or repairing from faith, while being proudly queer or 2SLGBTQIA+. This group works to dismantle religious based harm; pursue intersectional justice; celebrate all queer people who experience faith and spirituality; and be a gentle sharing space in your independent journey! Queerios is a drop in program for all youth 12-18 who identify as LGBTQ+, run entirely by LGBTQ+ staff. We focus on social activities, positive mental health, skill-building, and connecting youth to resources. Activities include art, sports, and games, as well as snacks, a full dinner, and dessert.

Quest

“Quest’s Rainbow Niagara Services have been developed to meet the unique needs and barriers experienced by those in sexually and gender diverse populations and has been a priority since Quest was started in 2010.

The Quest team strives to address this health equity issue and meet the gap in services. Our 2SLGBTQ+ services include:
* primary health care for all ages
* trans specific health care for ages 18+
* mental health support through counselling services
* outreach support on site, in schools, & in the community
* providing support around legal name change & gender marker documents and forms
* social groups; “2SLGBTQ+ 10-13 Group”, “Trans & Gender Questioning Youth Group (14-19)”, ” Virtual LGBT+ Adult Drop In (18+)” * Gender Quest adult trans support group
* health promotion/community capacity initiatives; Pride Prom, Halloween Party, Health Fairs
* community presentations to social services, schools, and medical providers
* support to Gay Straight Alliances, PFLAG * collaborating with various 2SLGBTQ+ groups/coalitions such as Niagara’s Senior Pride Network.
